Job Opportunity – Metallurgist:

We currently have an exciting new opportunity to join the team based at our Global Technology Centre in Strathroy.

The Person:

Reporting to the Manager, Core Technology, the successful candidate is responsible for leading the development of novel corrosion mitigation solutions as well as support product / process research activity to enable new product growth strategy. This includes the research and development of processing technologies for the further enhancement of product design and to significantly benefit current manufacturing processes.

An all round team player, you will be an analytical thinker who is organized, focused and able to work to tight deadlines. Working closely with both support teams and global production teams, you will lead the way in the development of cost effective corrosion solutions for our esteemed OEM customers around the world. You will provide expertise during the design and development stages of all programs, ensuring that we remain at the cutting edge of the market in the use of the latest and most advanced alloys available.

A practical yet visionary expert in the field, you will provide support and guidance on issues that arise with the materials of today while developing new and innovative solutions for tomorrow.

Your duties will also involve:

• Grow core competencies and technological know-how in terms of corrosion mitigation strategies and coating processes for magnesium and aluminum alloys.

• Develop cost effective corrosion solutions to meet or exceed OEM specifications and requirements.

• Expand/enhance material property databases to include new alloys for FEA / design.

• Provide engineering expertise and resources, develop new material technologies and ensure a consistent application of best product practices.

• Support research activities related to magnesium and aluminum alloys.

• Co-ordination of technology development to be undertaken by the GTC and the plants.

• Improve safety and environmental performance on an ongoing basis.

• Provide general technical support to GTC and Plants.

• Performs other related duties as assigned by management

You will possess a University degree in Engineering with a minimum of 5 - 8 years experience in Corrosion/Materials Engineering or a PhD in Engineering with 2 -3 years in Corrosion/Materials Analysis. Previous experience with magnesium alloys and coating processes in the automotive sector, would be an advantage.

The home base for this position will be at our Global Technology Centre in Strathroy, Ontario. The successful applicant must be able to commute daily.
